Al Mutanabbi Street Starts Here

I am really happy to publish my latest illustration, now belonging to the "Al Mutanabbi Project" I was invited to take part to. Having the chance to be involved in the "Al Mutanabbi Project" has given me the opportunity to join a collective call against war, death, oblivion of the memory and the written word. I have chosen a fragment of a poem by Mahmoud Darwish, whose voice - individual and collective, local and universal at the same time - is all about “absence and presence”. As Darwish says, “The poem is always incomplete, the butterflies make it whole”.
My intention is that of paying a tribute to this very fragment of time, in which through presence and absence we can decide to capture, as in a blink of wings, the presence of the memory.
For me, the act of slowly engraving word by word is an act of stubborn devotion to poetry and the value of the word.

Dear Valeria, What a powerful and still tender contribution to our project!! The very best art always includes, somehow, a way for the person who is looking at it to enter it and live for a moment with its images. The very best art holds the viewer long enough for them to begin to think about their own life in relation to the art they are looking at. This print does both those things!! Many thanks my friend.
